Debra Lefler Elected to First Defense Board of Directors
CHICAGO, June 28, 2017 – Butler Rubin associate Debra K. Lefler has been elected to the Board of Directors of First Defense Legal Aid.
Lefler, a former associate at Kirkland & Ellis, concentrates her practice in commercial litigation matters. While at Kirkland, Lefler represented pro bono clients in a successful high-profile federal court challenge to a discriminatory state law.
She is a cum laude graduate of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, where she was Executive Editor of the Northwestern University Law Review. Lefler earned a B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and she received her M.A. from the University of Chicago.
Formed in 1980, Chicago-based Butler Rubin assists clients nationally and internationally in complex business disputes, including antitrust law, class actions, defense of corporate directors and officers, labor and employment law, reinsurance, insurance, healthcare litigation, and insolvency.
First Defense Legal Aid provides free, 24-hour, legal representation to people in Chicago Police Department custody and educates Chicagoans about how to protect their constitutional rights. They undertake these activities to promote fairness and accountability in the justice system.
